Interface provides a number of useful services, both to members and to non-members. This page summarises them.
Services open to all
- Interface runs an IRC server (irc.interface.org.nz), which is used by members and other people to chat (mainly on #wellylug and #interface), and also by students taking COMP papers to discuss coursework (#comp200 for 200-level, and possibly #comp100 for 100-level).
Forums (http://user.interface.org.nz/forums/) for helping people with the VUW wireless network and for R users.
Interface runs regular InstallFests (normally one in each of the first and second trimesters each year), where Interface members help people to install Linux on their computers.
Interface has had a stand in the quad for SoftwareFreedomDay, to promote free software.
- We have informal social meetings each week (from 6:00 pm in CO339 on Wednesdays), which provide a time for members and anyone else who is interested to talk, eat together, etc.. We also often help people with computer problems during these meetings.
Member-only services
- SWANS is a wireless network and VPN allowing access to the Internet without the exorbitant charges and lack of direct access of SCS, and some of the restrictions (on ports etc.) of MCS.
We run the InterfaceServer, where members can get accounts to host web pages, store files, use the shell, etc..
We have a collection of computing-related books which members can borrow.
