Shamelessly taken from InstallFest200502
Planning for potential InstallFest for Trimester 1 2006.
http://installfest.org/ has some useful information.
Needful things to be coordinated
- Date, time, location
- Saturday, 18th March, 10am-5pm in CO341.
- Booking of room
Booking confirmed for Saturday 18th March, 9am to 6pm (giving an hour for setting up / packing up). Booking email has been forwarded to the organisation list (DavidHall)
- Live network port in location
- Access to Citylink or other Debian mirrors.
- phone access to check modems
- Alex has offered the use of the phone line in his office/or Use the one in mine(JoelWPauling)
Needful things
- Keyboards, mice, monitors, power cables
- If people can bring their entire PC, it helps enormously; otherwise setting up X can be a pain.
- Power strips
- Extension cables
- Linux, BSD etc. CDs
- A CD writer, ISOs and a stack of CD-Rs can work quite well for this
- 100 CD-Rs are to be bought. Who is bringing a CD writer?
- Someone needs to bring originals / images.
I (AndrewWalbran) have CDs for Ubuntu and Kubuntu 5.10, and Debian netinst (Sarge & an old Etch). Will we have access to ftp.nz.debian.org or another Debian mirror? Last InstallFest, someone (Donald?) set up a local Debian mirror.
I (PatrickQuinnGraham) have a mirror of various linuxes at VUW, see http://co-125-707-m.staff.vuw.ac.nz/ from on campus.
- A CD writer, ISOs and a stack of CD-Rs can work quite well for this
- Installation helpers who can be at location on date at time
- Some idea of what distros helpers can support
- Debian
- Gentoo (only a Stage 3 install!)
- Ubuntu
- Kubuntu
- Fedora
- Mandriva
- Suse
- Mepis
- Is anyone interested in installing anything (Net/Free/OpenBSD/Solaris) other than GNU/Linux? Are we likely to have anyone wanting such operating systems installed?
I can do OpenBSD and bring ISOs (JoelWPauling)
- Some idea of what distros helpers can support
- Ethernet cables and switches
- Server for network installations
- Disclaimer form
How about this one? from http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Installfest-HOWTO/legalprotection.html
