It has been proposed that Interface host an InstallFest] in the second part of Trimester 1 2005, on Saturday the 30th April.
http://installfest.org/ has some useful information.
Needful things to be coordinated
- Date, time, location
- 30-4-2005, from 10:00 am, CO341/2
- Booking of room
- Live network port in location
- Access to Citylink or other Debian mirrors.
- phone access to check modems
- Alex has offered the use of the phone line in his office
Needful things
- Keyboards, mice, monitors, power cables
- If people can bring their entire PC, it helps enormously; otherwise setting up X can be a pain
- Power strips
- Extension cables
- Linux, BSD etc. CDs
- A CD writer, ISOs and a stack of CD-Rs can work quite well for this
- 100 CD-Rs are to be bought. Who is bringing a CD writer?
- Someone needs to bring originals / images.
I (AndrewWalbran) have install CDs for Fedora Core 3, Ubuntu 4.10 (not quite the latest version) for i386 and PowerPC, and CD1 for Debian Sarge as of last November. Will we have access to ftp.nz.debian.org or another Debian mirror?
- A CD writer, ISOs and a stack of CD-Rs can work quite well for this
- Installation helpers who can be at location on date at time
- Some idea of what distros helpers can support
- Debian
- Mandriva
- Suse
- Mempis
- Some idea of what distros helpers can support
- Ethernet cables and switches
- Server for network installations
- Disclaimer form

here's a poster idea http://users.actrix.co.nz/jessicac/Got-Linux-poster.xcf That looks good, but perhaps add something like 'bring your own keyboard/mouse/monitor if possible' in small text at the bottom, as noted above. (done) Notice in Salient Advertising ideas
